World Stars Speak Ahead of Delhi Showpiece
“I am excited to not only tee it up in India for the first time but also visit a country that I have always wanted to explore,” said world number one Rory McIlroy, who will make his India debut at the $4 million DP World India Championship in October.

I’ve always enjoyed playing a global schedule, and as I have said before, there is tremendous potential to grow golf further in the country. I can’t wait to play in front of Indian fans.
English star Tommy Fleetwood, fresh from his FedEx Cup triumph, echoed the excitement of returning to Delhi for the first time since 2016.
“I can’t wait to get back to Delhi for the DP World India Championship. It’s such an amazing place — the people, the food — I’m looking forward to soaking it all in. But mainly I’m aiming to play some good golf and entertain the Indian fans at an important point in the season.”
A Defining Moment for Indian Golf
With McIlroy, Fleetwood, Justin Rose and other European Tour stalwarts teeing up at Delhi Golf Club (DGC) from October 16–19, the inaugural DP World India Championship is set to be a landmark sporting event. Co-sanctioned by the PGTI and the DP World Tour, it will serve as the penultimate stop on the Back 9 before the season-ending Play-Offs on the 2025 Race to Dubai.
But beyond the prestige of a $4 million purse, this event signals something much larger — the recognition of India as a serious player on golf’s global stage.
Jeev: A Showcase of Growth and Opportunity
Indian legend Jeev Milkha Singh believes the event is as much about symbolism as sport.
This event coming to India just shows how golf is growing in our country. It showcases that our economy is doing well — big tournaments are coming into India. For our young golfers, seeing Rory and Fleetwood is an ideal opportunity to watch, learn and get inspired.
Singh, though competing on the Seniors Tour in Japan, will have his son Harjai in the galleries at DGC. “Our young pros, men and women, are doing so well internationally. With big-ticket events, top players and sponsors investing, this $4 million tournament is an amazing feat. The DP World Tour committing to India for at least three years is a fantastic start.”
Beyond the Leaderboard: India’s Golden Opportunity
The DP World India Championship has the potential to shape the country’s golfing future in several ways
• Inspiration for Youth: Watching legends like McIlroy and Fleetwood up close will ignite ambitions among India’s next generation of golfers.
• Global Spotlight: India joins the select list of nations hosting DP World Tour events, strengthening its sporting soft power
• Economic Confidence: With major sponsorship and $4 million in prize money, the event demonstrates corporate belief in India as a golf market
• Tourism and Prestige: Delhi Golf Club will welcome global media, fans and business stakeholders, showcasing India’s ability to host world-class sport.
The DP World India Championship will shine a global spotlight on India’s place in professional golf, and we’re very proud to be bringing this international event to Delhi.
India on the Fairway to the Future
For India, October’s event is about more than who lifts the trophy. It is about cementing its place in the global sporting conversation, inspiring the next wave of talent, and signalling to the world that Indian golf is ready for its golden era.
