South Africa were dealt a setback on the eve of their three-match T20I series against England as veteran batter David Miller was ruled out with a hamstring strain.

Cricket South Africa confirmed on Tuesday that the 36-year-old picked up the injury while turning out for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred and has not recovered in time for the opening clash at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, on Wednesday.
David Miller has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20 International (T20I) series against England due to a right hamstring strain. Miller sustained the injury during the final week of The Hundred. He has been unable to recover in time for the T20I series.
No Replacement Named in 14-man Squad
With Miller sidelined, the Aiden Markram-led squad has been trimmed to 14 players. While he also missed the preceding ODI series, Miller remains central to South Africa’s long-term plans, with captain Temba Bavuma reaffirming his role in the build-up to the 2027 World Cup.
Morkel Brings Fresh Input to Coaching Staff
Balancing the blow of Miller’s absence, CSA announced that former all-rounder Albie Morkel has joined the T20I set-up as bowling consultant. Morkel, who represented South Africa in more than 100 limited-overs internationals and enjoyed a decorated career in global T20 leagues, is expected to add tactical nous to Markram’s youthful squad.
