Bangladesh sealed the three-match T20I series with a game to spare, thrashing the Netherlands by nine wickets in Sylhet on Tuesday. Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed set the tone with a superb spell of 3/21, as the visitors folded for just 103 in 17.3 overs. Pace duo Taskin Ahmed (2/22) and Mustafizur Rahman (2/18) backed him up with sharp spells, exposing Netherlands’ fragile batting once more.
A local boy and got all the support from the crowd here. There was an extra bit of turn, which helped, and I’m really happy to contribute.
Nasum, declared Player of the Match, said the home support inspired him:
Tanzid Anchors Chase with Maiden Fifty
Chasing 104, Bangladesh were brisk from the outset. Openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon went on the attack in the Powerplay, with Emon (23 off 21) falling in the sixth over after a lively stand. Tanzid, however, carried his bat with an assured 54* off 40 balls, laced with four boundaries and two sixes. He brought up his maiden T20I half-century in the 13th over before sealing victory with a straight four.
Credit goes to the bowlers. They executed plans perfectly. Taskin, Mustafizur, and Nasum were brilliant, and Tanzid finished the job with maturity.
Skipper Litton Das praised the all-round effort:
Dutch Batting Falters Again
For the Netherlands, Aryan Dutt (30 off 24) offered the only resistance, hitting the sole six of the innings before being bowled by Mahedi Hasan. Seven batters failed to cross double digits, and even Bangladesh’s sloppy fielding – two missed run-outs and a dropped catch – couldn’t save them from another collapse.
It was an ordinary performance in all facets. We didn’t assess conditions well. The wicket was slower than we’re used to, and we reacted too late.
Captain Scott Edwards admitted his team fell short:
One Match Left, Clean Sweep in Sight
With this win, Bangladesh moved 2-0 ahead, ensuring the series. The final match in Sylhet later this week offers them the chance to complete a clean sweep, while the Netherlands will look to salvage pride and find batting answers.
